The Gold Paper: building blocks for a public university

We urgently seek to take back our university both as a civic necessity and a public good. We want Goldsmiths to be a place that both represents and fights for what we believe in: a site of critical enquiry, social justice, creative practice and innovative teaching.

All are welcome to revise and add to the Gold Paper (originally written as a response to the Green Paper for education, and now must respond to the Higher Education Bill).

We prioritise working from our three key demands:

  1. Inquiry into mental health crisis on campus
  2. Housing justice
  3. Democratisation of college governance

All three are interconnected issues that have resonances across the local and wider communities of New Cross and Lewisham. The original petition gathered over 1000 online and physical signatures, and can be found at the following website: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gold-paper-petition
