FUEL POVERTY
At least one in 10 people in South East London dread winter. They face a choice of being warm and getting into debt OR avoiding debt but being cold in their home. Living in a cold home has grave impacts on health from pulmonary to heart disease. Being cold is miserable, exacerbates mental health issues and increases divorce rates. It shortens the lives of older people and will affect young people for the rest of their lives.
But this does not have to be the case: with the right support people can dramatically reduce energy use and the cost of gas and electricity. They can be warm for less.
